Alene Marie (Hilgenberg) Norman was born on May 17, 1930 in Oakley, Kansas, the only daughter of Jake and Neva (Delaney) Hilgenberg. Alene entered into eternal peace on Tuesday, June 7, 2022 at the Northeastern Nevada Medical Center in Elko, Nevada.
Alene’s early years were spent in western Kansas and eastern Colorado. She attended a year of Lutheran parochial school in Denver during WWII while the family resided on a farm in the Franktown, Colorado area. In 1946 she met her future husband, Bob Norman, while working at her parents’ restaurant in Arriba, Colorado. Alene and Bob were united in marriage in July 1949 in Colorado. The couple traveled throughout the Kansas/Colorado area following Bob’s work, eventually residing in Fort Morgan, Colorado where they welcomed their first son, Scott. Their second son, Del, joined the family five years later in Grand Junction, Colorado. Work again took the family to Arizona and California until they moved to Battle Mountain, Nevada in 1966, where they established a permanent home.
Alene was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. During her 57 years in Battle Mountain, she worked for the Owl Motel, Western Market Grocery in the fresh produce department, the Battle Mountain Chamber of Commerce, and as a librarian at the Battle Mountain Library. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star-Winnemucca Chapter and also served for many years on the Lander County Election Board. Alene happily spent a lot of time caring for her grandsons as they grew up. She became a baptized member of Christ Lutheran Church on May 26, 1996.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bob in 1994, and his eight siblings.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children Scott G. Norman & Del Norman of Battle Mountain; six grandchildren Jay T. Norman, Tyler Norman, & Riley Norman (Dani) of Battle Mountain, Ian Norman (Rayana Brooksher) & Jonas Norman of Elko, NV, and Taylor Jene Norman (Elvia) of Dayton, NV; five great grandchildren Saylor & Andrea Norman, Bennett & Owen Norman, and Mateo Norman; sisters-in-law Bobbi Norman and Sandy Norman; other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
