It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Darrel William Johnson at the age of 87. He passed peacefully surrounded by loving family in Elko NV. Darrel was born June 10, 1935, and raised in South Dakota by his parents, Mabel and Erwin Johnson. Along with 4 siblings, one being a twin brother, Donny. Darrel moved to Yerington, NV where he drove truck for Tibbals Construction in Yerington NV where he met his wife, Thelma Mae Johnson. He moved his family to Fairbanks, AK and continued to drive truck for the pipeline in Alaska, where his family lived for years. Later he moved to the mining industry landing in Winnemucca, NV where he and Thelma lived for many years. Darrel was a very hardworking man who loved his family wholeheartedly. He was a godly man that led his life with love for Christ and his family. He was a gentle giant that could walk into a room and light it up with his amazing smile. He had a presence that could put anyone at ease and a genuine ability to make everyone feel special. He is survived by his sister Betty and 8 children, Patsy Cox (Robert), Richard Varner (Nancy), Vicky Hoogland (Harry), Carol Varner, Randy Johnson (Karen), Cindy Silva, Kay Cates, JoElla Whitesides (Todd). Numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. Darrel Is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Thelma Mae Johnson, and 3 of his 4 siblings, Donny, June, and Johnny.
