Jerry Franklin Windous, 84, of Wildhorse, NV, passed away on March 17, 2024, in Elko. He was born on August 17, 1939, in Ely, Nevada, to Udell and Nellie Mae Windous.
As a young man, Jerry served in the National Guard as a 1st Lieutenant for 6 years. He also pursued his passion for the great outdoors by majoring in Wildlife Management at Utah State. Jerry's career spanned various roles, from working at Kennicott Copper as a diesel mechanic to being a game warden for the Nevada Division of Wildlife, where he served for 27 years.
Jerry was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, trapping, snowmobiling, fishing, waterskiing and guiding 4-wheeling groups through the hills of northern Nevada. Jerry was also an avid singer and could be heard harmonizing many a tune in his clear tenor voice.
Jerry is survived by his son Darin (Sue) Windous, daughter Sidonna (Brian) Kidwell, brothers Tom (Danelle) Windous and Jim Windous, 7 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Lois Laneve Windous, sons Thomas Bryce and Jerry Bart Windous, daughter Carrie Dawn Winkelkotter, and his parents.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 30, 2024, at 10 AM at the Latter-day Saint Chapel on Boyd Kennedy Rd. in Spring Creek, NV. Burns Funeral Home is assisting with the arrangements.
Jerry will be remembered for his friendly and loving nature, his sense of humor, his dedication to family, and his unwavering commitment to serving his community and the wilderness he cherished.
