Our cherished Jewel DeeAnn Jacques went home to be with our Heavenly Father on May 26,
2026, at the home that she and the love of her life, Mark, worked so hard to build together.
Jewel was born on April 18, 1956, in Gunnison, Utah, to Alan and DeeAnn Allred. Shortly after
her birth, the family moved to McGill, Nevada, where her father worked in the mines. Jewel was
the eldest of four children and is survived by her brother, Alma Allred of McGill, NV, and her
sister, Teresa Allred of Salt Lake City, Utah; she was preceded in death by her sister, Patsy
Bates. Jewel deeply adored, treasured, and spoke of her siblings often throughout her life.
Jewel’s vibrant spirit will forever live on through the family she loved so dearly. She is survived
by her husband of 38 years, Mark Jacques, and their children with their families:
• Son Jamie Jacques (and wife, Monica) of Mendon, Massachusetts, and their children
Andrew (22) with his fiancée Kelly Locklin (22), and Ryan (19).
• Son Cody Jacques (and his love, Crystal Cuilla) of South Fork, Nevada, and his
children: Christian (26) with his partner Kylee Courtland (23) of Elko, Nevada, and their
daughter Blakely Jacques (4); Alyssa (23) of Reno, NV; Justin (22) of Elko, NV; and
Amy (18) of Sparks, NV.
• Daughter Alice Alexander of Jerome, Idaho, and her children: Dlyla Alexander (26)
with her partner Nash Hendricks (28) of Twin Falls, ID, and their son Niko (2); and
Isaiah Alexander (22) of Las Vegas, NV.
• Stepsons Mark Jacques Jr. (and wife, Lisa) of Falks City, Oregon, and Arique Jacques of
Renton, Washington.
• Jewel is also survived by her grandson, Jonathin of Utah.
Peacefully awaiting her return are her parents, Alan and DeeAnn Allred; her aunt and namesake,
Jewel Hansen; her sister, Patsy Bates; her nephew, Kevin Allred; her great-grandchild, Skylar; as
well as numerous dear friends and extended family members.
After graduating as part of the class of 1974 from White Pine High School in Ely, Nevada, Jewel
attended college in Cedar City, Utah, for one year. She later returned to McGill, where she began
building her family and became the loving mother of three children.
As a devoted single mother, Jewel moved to Elko, Nevada, in 1983, where she worked at the
Freeport Gold Mine in security and later became one of the first female haul pak drivers in
mining. It was there that she met the love of her life, Mark Jacques, who was working as a
delivery truck driver at the time. This chapter of her life became monumental not only for her
family, but also for the many lives she would later impact through her work and compassion. In
addition to being one of the first women in mining, she was a founding member of the Mine
Emergency Response Team (MERT) for Freeport and led some of the original teams in several
annual Mine Safety Olympiads, continually winning and setting safety standards for the mining
industry.
During this time, she began pursuing her lifelong passion for the medical field. She worked for
many years as an EMT while attending the very first nursing program offered at Northern
Nevada Community College (now known as Great Basin College), achieving her Registered
Nurse license. Their dedication to helping others never wavered. Jewel later became a Medical
Director at the Vitality Center and served as a correctional nurse at Ely State Prison for 22 years.
Jewel even spent several years teaching evening college nursing and EMT courses at NNCC.
Following a major vehicle accident, she endured multiple surgeries and years of rehabilitation.
During this time, doctors also discovered several tumors in Jewel's brain, leading to additional
major surgeries. Even through those difficult challenges, her dedication to caring for others
remained steadfast as she returned to work in corrections at Lovelock State Prison, Ely State
Prison, and NYTC, eventually retiring in 2015.
Jewel was a saintly, self-sacrificing wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend who led her life unashamedly. Known for being a force of love—fierce
and downright selfless in all she did—Jewel embodied an unending generosity that could be seen
in her care for her entire family and countless others. She always had the gumption to stand tall
against any obstacle. To her family, she was the doctor, the therapist, and the comedian. She
fully lived her later years, joking that she was "an Ace Hardware store" due to the metal in her
body and always found joy in everything from the mundane to the most serious task.
Knowing how to be the life of the party while always keeping the Lord close to her heart, Jewel
will be sorely missed. We all know that she is finding peace while keeping heaven thoroughly
entertained by her antics. We can hear the heavens saying today that things just got a little
rowdier, but the love is undeniable.
"She is clothed with strength and dignity and laughs without fear of the future." (Proverbs 31:25)
