Lupe Vasquez Gonzalez, 98, of Wells, Nevada, passed away on Saturday, March 4, 2023, at the Highland Manor Skilled Nursing Facility in Elko, Nevada. She was born June 1, 1924, in Redwing, Colorado, to Aucencio and Cleotilde Vasquez. She married Blas Lara Gonzalez, and they began to move westward eventually settling in Wells, Nevada, where Blas worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad.
Lupe is survived by her sister Elsie Serna of Windsor, Colorado; brothers, John Vasquez, Jerry Vasquez, and Mike Vasquez all of Fort Collins, Colorado; daughters, Patricia Notestine of Elko, Nevada, Martha Eriksen of Wells, Nevada, and Shan Arcobello of Reno, Nevada; sons, Louis Gonzales of Tri-Cities, Washington, Les Gonzalez & wife Mindy of Kerrville, Texas, Larry Gonzalez and wife Liz, and Kenneth Gonzalez all of Reno, Nevada; nine grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
Lupe’s mother, father, husband, four sisters, and three brothers all preceded her in death.
Lupe was a long-time resident of Wells where she and her husband raised their seven children. She was a homemaker, a dedicated mother and was active as a volunteer in school activities for all her children, and even helped other Spanish speaking children to speak English. In her younger days, Lupe was an exceptionally talented artist and loved drawing. Her talents also extended into other areas as she enjoyed crafting and was a very accomplished seamstress. She loved to dance and sing and taught her kids how to harmonize at an early age. Some of her favorite activities included nature walks and hikes, visiting garage sales and flea markets, and playing board games with her family. She was always a tough competitor.
The funeral service to bid goodbye to Lupe will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at the Burns Funeral Home, 895 Fairgrounds Rd., Elko, Nevada. Viewing at 1:00 PM with the funeral service to follow at 2:00 PM. A graveside burial service will be conducted at a future date when weather permits
