Roy Elsner Obituary

Roy Earl Elsner was born January 31, 1959, in Boise ID to Earl and Marygrace Elsner. He took his final ride to heaven on February 29, 2024.

Living the cowboy life, Roy traveled with his family through Nevada and Idaho. This was only the beginning of Roy creating fast friends all over the country. He never let go of a friend, ready to greet them with a warm smile, and an oddly specific anecdote from their past. He attended multiple high schools, eventually graduating at Minidoka High School in 1977. This is where Roy’s interest in the medical field started. After landing on his head while riding bulls, he decided, “I should use my head for something better than a landing pad.”

Roy first obtained his associate degree in radiographic technology from Boise State University. There he joined the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity.

With the dream of higher education and one day owning his own ranch, he went on to get his Bachelor's in Pharmacy in 1990, finishing early to be one of the last classes of Pharmacists to not have to get his doctorate. During that time, he lived at the local Newman center. From his recalling, he cleaned the church and got a freezer full of spaghetti dinner as pay. Knowing Roy, this was his dream.

Roy’s dream became even more real after he met his wife Connie, getting engaged at the Flying Pie in Boise, and getting married quickly after at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Boise on March 16, 1991. Roy and Connie went on to spend 33 wonderful years together.

Ready to start their lives together, the two moved to Elko, Nevada where they would settle in to be pillars of the community. In 1994, Roy and Connie became the three musketeers when their son, Tucker, entered the world. The three grew closer together with each moment, fortifying their family bond through countless adventures exploring Northern Nevada and Southern Idaho. Their family quickly grew again with the addition of their two sons Jared (2003) and Spencer (2005), only adding to the adventures the family set out for.

Roy spent 14 years working at the Kmart Pharmacy before buying The Pill Box in Spring Creek in 2006. In addition to helping the community feel better, he was also a capable cowboy, running a ranch with over 120 cattle, an incredible athlete, running marathons and setting records up local hill climb races, and a prolific member of the Elko Desert Sunrise Rotary Club. Roy was truly in a league of his own. He fought for what he thought was right, and supported those who needed a little extra love.

Roy is deeply missed by many, and his memory will live on through his multitude of influences through organizations and personal relationships. He is survived by his wife, Connie, his sons Tucker (Briana), Jared, and Spencer, his two Granddaughters Presley and Giana, George (Chris) Elsner, Joe (Paulette) Elsner and Cindy Patterson, along with many nieces and nephews.

Roy was preceded in death by his father and mother Earl and Marygrace Elsner, and sister Mary Jo and brother-in-law Patrick Patterson.
