Sharon Frances Townsend

Elko, Nevada Sharon Frances Townsend, 71, of Elko, Nevada passed away Monday, January 10, 2022 at her home following a courageous battle with cancer.

Sharon was born July 2, 1950 in Los Angeles, California the daughter of Harlan Ward Lupkin and Caroline Frances Sherwood Lupkin. She grew up and attended schools in the Los Angeles area. Her father was a movie actor and a professional musician, playing for many well-known entertainers in his era. It was no surprise when Sharon began her love for music and became a very talented and renowned musician. Her instrument of choice was the bass guitar and her incredible singing voice. She played in a number of bands through her adult life. Some of the bands she played with included Madd Dash, Tri-Star, Perfecto and Motion and The Jump to name a few. Playing bass guitar took her all over the world opening up for top musicians and even being the headliners for a number of concerts in many different countries. Sharon married Jaime Townsend and they spent many years playing music together, they later divorced.

Sharon married the love of her life, Stephen Garcia and they spent many years together until her untimely passing. Sharon had many hobbies including fishing, horseback riding and music. She loved to play her music loud for everyone to enjoy. Her love was her dogs; she cared for a number of different breeds throughout her life, and loved them all the same.

Sharon is survived by her husband, Stephen Garcia of Elko; two sisters, Jessie Thompson of Las Vegas and Karen Esparza of Santa Clarita, California. She also leaves behind many dear friends that has touched her life for good that span across the globe. She was preceded in death by her parents, and one sister, Susan.

A Celebration of Sharon’s life will be held at 12 noon on Friday, February 18, 2022 at the VFW Hall, 731 VFW Drive in Elko, Nevada. Please join the family in sharing memories and celebrating Sharon’s life together.
