Thomas Bingaman passed away on the evening of January 31st, 2023, in the community he called home. Tom was married to and adored his wife Linda for nearly 48 years. Together they raised two sons, Josh and Jason Bingaman, and welcomed daughters-in-law and seven grandchildren into the family. Tom loved his family and structured his life, ensuring they were provided for first and were set up for success in anything they pursued. He loved his family and spent his life serving his communities.
Tom was raised in Salinas California, graduating high school in 1970. Afterward, he attended junior college at Hartnell Community College, then transferred to California State University in Sacramento California. It would be here that he graduated with his bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice in 1974 and where he would meet his future wife that he would build his life with.
Directly after college, Tom achieved his lifelong career dream as a police officer for Southern Pacific Railroad, where he served in California and Western Nevada, before being transferred to Carlin Nevada in the early 1980s, a place he and his family would come to call home. In this city, he began to integrate with the local Volunteer Fire Department and Ambulance, and Police Reserves and raised his family. He and his wife Linda would become pillars in the community, serving and influencing countless people either directly or indirectly.
Tom’s decision was always centered around his family, through decisions, lessons, aspirations, and sacrifices. If it came down to a time, money, or sacrifice conflict, he would choose his family nearly every time. One such example came in the early 1990s when he was faced with the decision to uproot his family and leave the area he had grown to love when his job was transferred back to California. Although it came with a large financial risk, he didn’t hesitate. Without even speaking to his wife or family he walked away for the stability of his family, working odd jobs to make ends meet and continuing to serve his community. He would later find his second calling with the Nevada Division of Forestry and would go on to serve as a Battalion Chief, Fire Inspector, and finally would retire out of dispatch to continue his focus on family, know his grandkids, travel with his wife, and address his health.
Tom is survived by his loving wife Linda Bingaman; His sons and daughter-in-law, Josh and Brandi Bingaman, Jason Bingaman, and Sheba Bridges; Grandchildren, Hannah, Hayden, Brian, William, Rainy, Jeremiah, and Star; His brother and wife, William and Barbara Bingaman and family. He was preceded in death by his younger brother and wife Robert and Kim Bingaman both in 2020. He also leaves behind countless souls that have benefited from his influence, dedication, and dry sense of humor. His jokes and puns will be missed, as will his influence in our everyday lives.
The family has chosen to honor his memory by holding a celebration of life and performing services the weekend of May 6th, details will be released closer to that date.
The family would like to express our sincerest gratitude for the tremendous support shown by the community he loved. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to:
